Colorado Wedding Cakes
Elopement & Small Wedding Packages

I’ve done the research, I’ve experimented, and I’ve talked to a LOT of bakeries.
Here’s my take: like the rest of the wedding industry, most bakeries aren’t setup (or particularly interested) in working with small orders.

So for my couples looking for something simple, delicious, and affordable…
I highly recommend the Chantilly Cake from Whole Foods!
These grocery stores are conveniently located across the state, so I’ll help you find the closest option.

Option 2 - Wedding Cake Specialist

CMW cakes

I’m happy to provide recommendations for bakeries that specialize in custom wedding cakes. Unfortunately, these bakeries all have different sizes/prices so it’s difficult to estimate exact prices.

However, once you send them over what you’re looking for, they’ll provide a custom quote for you.

Most of these bakeries offer some options for vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, etc. diets.

Design ideas…

You’ll be working directly with the bakery to create your custom cake, but it helps if you have some ideas! Inspiration photos always make it easer, below are some examples.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a wedding cake for an elopement cost?

Small weddings often opt for small cakes from a local grocery store, which often cost less than $50. Custom wedding cake's price can vary widely depending on size, tiers, and toppings. In Colorado, you can expect bespoke wedding cakes to range from $100 to $1,000 or more. The cost will depend on your specific preferences and the bakery you choose to work with.

Do people have cakes at elopements?

Small weddings have no rules! Many couples don’t do traditional elements such as a wedding cake, while others choose to do a small “cutting” cake so they can still get some of those traditional photos.

Can I have a wedding cake delivered to my micro-wedding or elopement?

Yes! Most bakeries in Colorado offer delivery and setup services for wedding cakes. It's essential to communicate with your chosen bakery to ensure they can deliver to your micro-wedding venue and confirm any associated delivery fees. In many cases it may be significantly cheaper to pick up the cake yourself.

How far in advance should I order my micro-wedding cake?

To secure your preferred bakery and ensure they have adequate time to create your custom cake, ordering your micro-wedding cake at least three to six months in advance is a good move. Famous bakeries can book up quickly, so early planning is critical. However, oftentimes elopements are planned last minute, so if your flexible you can always find an option for a quick cake!

What’s the best wedding cake for elopements in Colorado?

There are tons of fantastic wedding bakeries in Colorado, however many of them have high minimums that make them unable to work for small events. If your doing something simple, I highly recommend the Chantilly cake from Whole Foods! It’s delicious and looks great in photos.

Can I order a smaller cake for the main cutting ceremony and additional sheet cakes to serve more guests?

Yes, this is a common approach for weddings of all sizes, including micro-weddings. You can order a smaller, decorative cake for the ceremonial cutting and have additional sheet cakes with the same flavor to serve your guests. This allows you to have an aesthetically pleasing cake for photos while ensuring enough dessert for everyone.

Can I have a combination of cake and other desserts at my micro-wedding?

Generally this isn’t common for smaller weddings, but of course you can! You can discuss this idea with your preferred bakery. Some ideas for dessert options to complement your wedding cake include,

  • Cupcakes

  • Mini pies

  • Cookies

  • Macarons

  • Dessert bars (e.g., a variety of brownies and bars)

  • Candy buffet

  • Donuts

  • Chocolate fondue fountain

You can also get your preferred bakery to create these desserts in a way that accommodates any dietary restrictions you or your guests might have.
