Officer’s Gulch Permits, Rules, & FAQs

Wedding Permit

Officer’s Gulch is regulated by the White River National Forest, they do not require a specific “wedding permit” and only require special use permits for groups with 75+ people. The vendors that I coordinate follow all official National Forest rules and Leave No Trace Principles.

Best Day, Time & Month

Officer’s Gulch is a popular wedding destination all year around, but the most popular months are mid-June through mid-October. If you want to beat the crowds, the best time to get married at Officer’s Gulch is at sunrise, though sunset is also very beautiful. It’s always best to avoid weekends, due to heavy traffic and limited parking, with Monday and Tuesday being the least busy days of the week.
If you want to get the fall colors at Officer’s Gulch, aim for the last week of September or the first week of October.

Max Group Sizes

As a professional elopement planner, I never suggest doing a wedding on public land, like Officer’s Gulch, with more than six guests. However, we do accept groups of up to ten guests at this location on a case-by-case basis.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed on a leash at Officer’s Gulch.

Decorations, Arches, and Chairs

You are not allowed to set up decorations, arches, or chairs for a wedding ceremony at Officer’s Gulch without a special use permit (which is near impossible to get).

How Long is the Walk to Officer’s Gulch?

Officer’s Gulch is conveniently located about fifty yards from the parking area, and has a short trail that goes around the pond. The trail is packed dirt, and unmaintained, so can be muddy or icy depending on the conditions. This location is not recommended for elderly guests or those with mobility issues.
