Why Couples Love Chautauqua Park

Chautauqua Park is a beautiful mountain park, conveniently located on the edge of Boulder, Colorado. The park is open all year around, and allows weddings without a permit for small groups (they do require a photography permit, which we cover for you). The iconic flat iron formations and sweeping meadows provide breathtaking backdrops for photos, and the convenient parking and accessibility allows couples to get mountain vibes, without hiking.

Unfortunately…
This location can get very crowded with people, and other weddings, and as of 2026, they have gotten very strict about weddings not going “off the trails”—this means people may be walking right through your space during the ceremony. Weekends are best avoided, but even weekdays can be busy. It’s least busy at sunrise, but if you want try privacy, we gotta do a different location.

Why Couples Choose Us For Their Chautauqua Park Elopement

I Know Small Weddings!
Over the past seven years, I’ve officiated and planned hundreds of weddings at Chautauqua Park. I know exactly what it takes to have beautifully stress-free elopement here :)

I’ve Handpicked My Team
With my service, you get peace of mind knowing that you’re working with a tight-knit team of the best small wedding vendors in the state.

I’ve Always Had the Best Prices
As a one-man small business, I’m obsessed with transparency, simplicity, and giving my couples the best value possible.

My husband and I are from Wisconsin and traveled to Boulder to get married. We have never been and Iver made the planning process simple! His guides are helpful and he was quick to answer any questions we had. He helped us with the marriage license, officiant, floral, photographer, and videographer and also helped us locate a venue site and restaurant suitable for our 27 guests. Would highly recommend!

Chautauqua Park Permits, Rules & FAQs

Best Month, Day & Time

Chautauqua Park is open all year around, and we do weddings here in every season! Generally speaking, mid-June through mid-October is the “peak” wedding season in Colorado, and that tends to be when the weather is most comfortable, but it’s really just personal preference. Snow comes and goes at this location, but if you are aiming for snow, go for February or March.

Ceremony Privacy

Chautauqua Park is a popular public park, and is generally full of people. At sunrise the park is the least busy, but for true privacy, I suggest booking Sunrise Amphitheater, which is just up the road.

Wedding Permit

Good news! There is no wedding permit required for Chautauqua Park. There is a permit required for the photography, but we cover this for you.

Max Group Sizes

Chautauqua Park has the “Trails” which can technically support groups of up to 12 people total, though we strongly discourage it for groups with more than 6 guests.

There is also the Chautauqua Park “Lawn” which has a ton of space, and also does not require a wedding permit for groups of up to 50 people. However, I don’t recommend this spot, as it tends to be full of people, and the mountain views are limited.

Parking & Accessibility

This park is very accessible, located just off the main road, you don’t have to walk more than a few minutes on a fairly flat dirt path to get to the ceremony site. However, it is not handicap accessible.

Photo Spots

Chautauqua Park has plenty of nice spots within walking distance for photos. We also encourage our couples to take a short drive up the road, after the ceremony, to the epic Lost Gulch Overlook—which offers some of the most dynamic views in Colorado.

Marriage License

In order to get legally married in Colorado, you’ll need a marriage license. This process is very simple, and with my planning, I provide easy step-by-step guidance!

Dogs

Dogs are allowed at Chautauqua Park, but must be kept on a leash.

Decorations, Arches, and Chairs

You are not allowed to setup chairs, tables, decorations, or arches at Chautauqua Park.

Your officiant will sign the marriage license, and then it’s off to celebrate (usually) at a local restaurant - I’ll provide some great recommendations!
