Lost Gulch Overlook offers one of the most dynamic, and sought-after photography backdrops in all of Colorado. This mountain park is conveniently located on the edge of Boulder, Colorado, and is open all year around (though the roads close for bad winter weather). They allows weddings without a permit for small groups of up to 12 total people—they do require a photography permit, which we cover for you.

Unfortunately…
This location is small, and almost always crowded with people, and other weddings. Professionally, I only recommend it at sunrise Monday - Thursday, for groups with four or less guests.

Lost Gulch Permits, Rules & FAQs

Best Month, Day & Time

Lost Gulch Overlook is technically open all year around, but the road often closes in the winter, which is why I suggest mid-June through mid-October for weddings here. This is the “peak” wedding season in Colorado, and tends to be when the weather is most comfortable.

Ceremony Privacy

Lost Gulch Overlook is a SUPER popular public park, and is almost always full of people. At sunrise the site is the least busy, but for true privacy, I suggest booking Sunrise Amphitheater, which is just up the road.

Wedding Permit

Good news! There is no wedding permit required for Lost Gulch Overlook. There is a permit required for the photography, but we cover that for you.

Max Group Sizes

Lost Gulch Overlook is governed by Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks, who have a clear rule stating that groups of up to 12 people are able to do simple, short, wedding ceremonies. In my professional opinion, there really isn’t room for more than four guests at the absolute max. Chautauqua Park just down the road has more space for the ceremony—and you can drive up to Lost Gulch for the photos after!

Parking & Accessibility

Lost Gulch Overlook has its own parking lot directly adjacent to the site, however it regularly fills up, so give yourself plenty of time to find a spot! Keep in mind, while the location is less than 30 yards from the parking, it does require walking on large and steep boulders, proper footwear is required.

Photo Spots

Lost Gulch Overlook has plenty of nice spots within walking distance for photos. Many of our couples also drive down the road to take some photos at Chautauqua Park.

Marriage License

In order to get legally married in Colorado, you’ll need a marriage license. This process is very simple, and with my planning, I provide easy step-by-step guidance!

Dogs

Dogs are allowed at Lost Gulch Overlook, but must be kept on a leash.

Decorations, Arches, and Chairs

You are not allowed to setup chairs, tables, decorations, or arches at Lost Gulch Overlook.

Planning, Vendors, & License
I connect you with my team of world-class vendors (photographer, officiant, etc.) based on your preferences. I’ll coordinate the logistics for the day, and provide guidance on obtaining the marriage license.

Step 4
Get Married!
You’ll meet up with my day-of vendors at Lost Gulch (like photographer/officiant) and they will lead the day! You’ll have a simple ceremony, followed by a photo session. Your officiant will sign the marriage license, and then it’s off to celebrate (usually) at a local restaurant - I’ll provide some great recommendations!
